The Center for Science and Medicine will conduct significant cancer research and treatment programs, which will benefit the surrounding community, where the cancer death rate is 30 percent higher than the average in New York City. As a result of the expanded research space, Mount Sinai will be able to enhance research on heart and brain diseases, children’s health, asthma, diabetes and hypertension.
Construction and operation of the Center for Science and Medicine will provide concrete economic and health benefits to the local community. Mount Sinai is already the leading employer in East Harlem, and nearly one-half of the visits to its outpatient clinics are from Harlem residents. Mount Sinai is committed to facilitating participation in this project by local business, minority business, and the local workforce.

Construction began in the summer of 2009 and the building should be complete in late 2012. We will continue to provide updates on the CSM building and appreciate your patience as construction continues.
