Mount Sinai's Cardiovascular Surgery and Intervention program leapt to world prominence in the subspecialty field of aortic surgery when it recruited the father of modern aortic surgery, Randall Griepp, M.D., in the 1980s. Surgical technology is now moving towards a less invasive interventional approach to treating a variety of diseases such as coronary disease, valvular heart disease, congenital heart disease, and aneurysms/peripheral vascular disease. A great collaboration has therefore evolved between cardiothoracic surgery, cardiovascular anesthesia, vascular surgery, and cardiac catheterization intervention. This collaboration brings together doctors who are stars in their own field. The strength of this integration is the key to our success at Mount Sinai.
