Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD)

The Compulsive and Impulsive Disorders Program is a renowned comprehensive program dedicated to research in obsessive-compulsive spectrum disorders and impulse control spectrum disorders. As experts in this field, we provide diagnosis, treatment, brain imaging and cognitive testing to participants, with the objective of enhancing our understanding of these disabling disorders. Our research aims at developing more effective treatments to improve the quality of life of those suffering from disorders such as obsessive compulsive disorder, body dysmorphic disorder, pathological gambling, binge eating, borderline personality disorder, and other related conditions. Research studies are conducted by experienced research staff of Mount Sinai School of Medicine, including psychiatrists, psychologists, and research assistants.
The Compulsive and Impulsive Disorders Program enrolls participants from paid and free advertisements in local papers and websites such as the OCFoundation, BDDcentral, the ADAA, NARSAD clinical trial listings, Centerwatch, Clinicaltrials.gov, NORD and radio. Part of our objectives with federally funded grants is to raise awareness for severely debilitating disorders such as adolescent BDD. As such, we make visits to private schools in the NYC area with health teachers and school psychologists. We also provide talks to the Mount Sinai affiliated Adolescent Health Center and other departments such as plastic surgery and pediatric psychiatry. Recruitment for all studies will be facilitated through the broad research network of Mount Sinai Services, affording us access to research and clinical programs and patient populations at Mount Sinai Hospital, Elmhurst Hospital, and Queens Hospital Center. Mount Sinai Services has hospitals in three of the five boroughs of New York City, thus providing unique recruitment opportunities.
