Woman to Woman Program for Male Partners
You, the male partners of women in treatment for gynecologic cancer, are often overlooked by health care workers, family and, friends. This may result in confusion, anxiety, and anger. One partner asked us, "What about me?"
We interviewed ten partners of women in various stages of treatment and created a program designed to address the specific questions and concerns of partners.
The Woman to Woman "Information Guide for the Male Partners of Woman With Gynecologic Cancer" contains information on gynecologic cancer, treatment and side effects, sexuality, finances, how to deal with family and friends and resources for each topic. Male partners receive a guide at the time of their partner's diagnosis. If you have not received a guide, you may either call Woman to Woman at (212) 241-3793 or download it from the Woman to Woman website.
The Woman to Woman website will include a link to the program for male partners and will include the guide as well as a program to provide peer mentoring from men whose partners have been in treatment for gynecologic cancer. Volunteers will post their stories and interested partners will contact the Woman to Woman Program Coordinator to get contact information about a specific mentor. The mentor will be available for support and information throughout the treatment journey.
One to one social work support is also available to male partners. If you are interested in speaking to The Mount Sinai Gynecologic Oncology Social Worker for emotional support or information, please call Arden Moulton at (212) 241-3793.
