Woman to Woman is a program of The Mount Sinai Hospital Gynecologic Cancer Department. The goal of Woman to Woman is to provide one-to-one emotional support and mentoring to women undergoing treatment for gynecologic cancer, and their partners who support them through this difficult time.

Objectives include, providing information and resources about gynecologic cancer, empowering women to advocate for themselves, providing hope through example, and offering ongoing emotional support.

"Woman to Woman also includes a program designed to provide support to the partners of women in treatment for gynecologic cancer, including an information guide, access to a counseling and access to peer mentoring from peers."

Woman to Woman is managed by a social worker who acts as program coordinator. The program coordinator matches survivor volunteers with demographically appropriate women undergoing treatment, and serves as a liaison between survivor and patient. The program coordinator interviews all women being treated at Mount Sinai and determines interest in and appropriateness of a referral to Woman to Woman.

Volunteers are carefully screened by the Woman to Woman team and receive extensive training before seeing patients. On going education and support is provided to them through monthly group meetings.

Volunteers see women in a variety of settings. They meet women following diagnosis and provide emotional support and peer mentoring throughout the treatment process providing support by telephone or one to one in the treatment centers.

Mount Sinai, located in New York City, is a tertiary care center with a medical school. Woman to Woman annually serves a population of approximately 250 women with gynecologic cancer.
