Reproductive Endocrinology

Overview

According to the National Center for Health Statistics of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 12 percent (7.3 million) of couples of child-bearing age in the United States have difficulty getting pregnant. Most experts define infertility as an inability to conceive after one year of having well-timed, unprotected intercourse, though if the female is 35 or older, infertility evaluation may be encouraged after six months of having well-timed, unprotected intercourse. Another challenge faced in building a family can be recurrent pregnancy loss, defined by the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) as two or more failed pregnancies. ASRM recommends seeking medical evaluation for recurrent pregnancy loss after three or more losses, which impacts approximately 1% of all women who have been pregnant.

Women who are having difficulty conceiving or carrying a pregnancy to term can turn to the Mount Sinai Medical Center's Division of Reproductive Endocrinology, Reproductive Medicine Associates of New York (RMA of New York), to gain access to one of the country's most comprehensive and progressive treatment programs.

RMA of New York is a full-service fertility center equipped with a state-of-the-art laboratory, offering patients treatment options ranging from initial evaluations to advanced treatments, including in vitro fertilization (IVF), intracytoplasmic injection (ICSI), and preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD). The center's unparalleled team of fertility specialists and embryologists has dominated the attention of the public and media with its reputation for success and quality of care. They are regularly quoted in media and recognized by media outlets, such as Castle Connolly and New York Magazine, as being the top in the field. As active members of the faculty of Mount Sinai School of Medicine and the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility within the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Science, the physicians are involved in research to further reproductive science and technology and have made significant contributions to the advancement of the field of reproductive medicine. RMA of New York's fertility specialists are regularly invited to disseminate their expertise in both national and international medical symposiums.
