General Surgery

Overview

Since June of 1855, the surgeons in Mount Sinai’s Division of General Surgery have played a key role in the hospital’s growth and evolution. Today, we provide state-of-the-art care with a multidisciplinary approach that continues to shape the institution’s future.

While many of our procedures fall under the category of “general surgery,” all of our surgeons offer highly specialized expertise. For example, a patient requiring thyroid surgery would consult with a Mount Sinai physician who is also one of the nation’s few fellowship-trained endocrine surgeons. Likewise, a person in need of a gastrointestinal procedure (like a hiatal hernia repair) would see one of our gastrointestinal experts. This in-depth knowledge of specific disciplines allows our general surgeons to treat highly complex cases with outstanding results.

Additionally, each division member works closely with other physicians throughout the Mount Sinai Medical Center to provide the best possible care. This interdisciplinary approach gives patients access to all the resources our institution has to offer.
