Vocational Rehabilitation

Overview

The Mount Sinai Department of Rehabilitation Medicine Vocational Rehabilitation Services helps individuals with physical or neurological disabilities to return to work or school. Services are provided to inpatients, outpatients, those referred from other agencies, and self-referrals. Follow-up services are also provided to support and ensure vocational success.

Vocational Rehabilitation Services offers a variety of customized services to meet the specific needs of each individual. Included among them are:

  • Educational testing
  • Assessment of skills and aptitudes, situational assessment and work trials
  • Computer and internet-based assessment, training and education
  • Vocational and educational counseling
  • Career guidance
  • Exposure to assistive technology
  • Resume and interview preparation

Community Resources
The Vocational Rehabilitation Program cultivates and maintains important links to the community in order to facilitate community reintegration and entry or return to school and employment. These local resources include:

  • Local colleges and universities
  • Job training programs
  • Supported employment
  • New York State Vocational and Educational Services for Individuals With Disabilities (VESID)
  • Independent living centers
