About Us

Rehabilitation Medicine at The Mount Sinai Medical Center is a center of excellence in the delivery of complete care for people with disabilities. A wide range of comprehensive patient care services are available for individuals with spinal cord injuries, brain injuries, and a variety of neuromuscular, musculoskeletal, and chronic conditions. We are CARF-accredited for our Spinal Cord System of Care (SCSC) Brain Injury program (BI), and Comprehensive Integrated Inpatient Rehabilitation program (CIIRP). Mount Sinai Rehabilitation Center is the only program in New York State that is CARF accredited in both spinal cord injury and brain injury.

Our team-oriented approach is pivotal to successful rehabilitation. The interdisciplinary team approach at Mount Sinai takes advantage of each discipline’s expertise to provide quality coordinated care. Our experienced professionals evaluate each patient and meet regularly to develop and implement individualized treatment plans in partnership with patients and their families. Our goal is to make each individual with a disability maximally self-sufficient and mobile and able to return to community life.

The Mount Sinai Rehabilitation Center team includes physicians, primary rehab nurses, nurse practitioners, and professional staff in physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, nutrition, social work, psychology, therapeutic recreation, and vocational counseling. Special rehabilitation medicine programs include:

  • The Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Rehabilitation Program provides comprehensive care to individuals with spinal cord injuries. This includes a full range of innovative medical and rehabilitation services. For example, our “Do It” program is a unique outpatient program that facilitates community integration.
  • The Brain Injury (BI) and Stroke Rehabilitation Program provides comprehensive care to individuals with brain injuries due to trauma or stroke. It is well recognized that the treatment of individuals with cognitive and behavioral challenges is critical to community integration. Our specialists are uniquely qualified to meet these challenges.
  • Sports Therapy Center is a comprehensive outpatient physical and occupational therapy facility offering individualized treatments for individuals with a variety of musculoskeletal conditions. It is conveniently located in midtown Manhattan.
