Pain Management
Thoracic Anesthesia

Overview

Mount Sinai provides anesthesia for a variety of thoracic procedures. Two operating rooms in the Cardiothoracic Operating Suite are assigned to thoracic procedures each day. Approximately 500 major thoracic procedures are performed each year at the Mount Sinai Hospital. These include...

  • Lobectomy
  • Pneumonectomy
  • Video-assisted thoracoscopy
  • Esophageal surgery
  • Lung volume reduction
  • Tracheal reconstruction
  • Lung transplantion.

The Pain Management service provides options for post-operative pain control, including thoracic epidural analgesia. An epidural catheter is placed prior to surgery, and pain medication is administered during and/or after the procedure to ensure patient comfort.
