Pain Medicine is a relatively new medical specialty that provides diagnosis and treatment to patients with all types of pain. The majority of patients referred to pain specialists are those whose pain has been stubborn and has failed to respond to the normal and standard medical treatments offered by their primary care physicians or other specialists (such as, orthopedic surgeons, family practitioners, oncologists, and so on).
