Transplant Living Center

The Transplant Living Center - a network of support and comfort where families can cook together, cry together and ultimately heal together.

About Us

We understand that transplantation is a choice for patients only after many difficult treatments have been endured. At the Recanati/Miller Transplantation Institute at Mount Sinai, we bring together the finest, world-renowned surgeons, physicians, and professionals to support our patients every step of the way in the transplant process.

The Recanati/Miller Transplantation/Mount Sinai staff meet with patients to determine whether transplantation is the best and safest option. The transplant team works closely with patients and their families, and psychological support is available at all times. Every effort is made to customize services for our patients as they prepare for pre- and post-transplant treatment.

The dedicated patient care combined with the high experience level of our multi-disciplinary transplantation teams has made Mount Sinai one of the world's leading transplant centers. At the Recanati/Miller Transplantation Institute for heart, lung, liver, kidney, pancreas, and small intestine transplantation, our success rate is well above the national average.

State-of-the-art technology and treatments are employed in Mount Sinai's transplantations with the aim of producing dramatically positive results.

  • The left ventricular assist device (LVAD), known as a partial artificial heart, is an example of the kind of advanced care provided by Mount Sinai experts. The LVAD, when implanted, enables patients to extend or "bridge" their health long enough to receive a donor heart.

  • Mount Sinai kidney and liver transplantation teams have developed strong expertise in performing living donor transplantations.

  • Our highly skilled surgeons are among the few in the country who perform laparoscopic surgery on living kidney donors-a minimally invasive procedure which dramatically reduces recovery time for individuals.

  • Our 38-year history in transplantation research and care began with the opening of one of the region's first kidney transplant programs. Our lung program, established in 1992, is one of only two of its kind in the New York tri-state area.

At Mount Sinai, our dedicated transplant professionals — surgeons, doctors, nurses, therapists, counselors, nutritionists, and researchers — believe that together they make miracles happen. After all, transplants are a second chance at life.
