Cardiac Catheterization Labs

Treatments

At the forefront of research and care

Currently, the laboratory performs approximately 14,000 procedures per year, including over 5,000 interventional procedures. These involve angioplasty, rotational atherectomy, intracoronary stenting, drug-eluting stent, thrombectomy, valvuloplasty and peripheral vascular interventions. The Cath Lab is also involved in numerous FDA-approved protocols and studies involving newer stents, medications to decrease reblockage, clot-busting drugs, and gene therapy to grow new vessels in the heart, just to name some of its current developments.

The Cath Lab's reputation for safely performing a difficult procedure known as "rotational atherectom" that is used for tough calcified lesions as well as balloon aortic valvuloplasty for elderly non-operable patients is well known and greatly respected. Many regional medical centers and physicians refer complex and difficult coronary and valvular cases to Mount Sinai Heart's Cath Lab.
