About Us

Mount Sinai’s top ranking of seven out of 5,189 hospitals when it comes to treatment of gastrointestinal disorders, according to the latest U.S. News & World Report survey, reflects the vast expertise of our internationally renowned team of physicians, surgeons and other health professionals in providing care in this area.

By focusing on the individual patient’s conditions and needs, Mount Sinai experts can skillfully diagnose and manage gastrointestinal diseases and help alleviate accompanying symptoms and side affects.

Gastrointestinal diseases occur in the esophagus, stomach, intestines and other digestive tract-related organs, and include disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome, also known as IBS, Crohn’s Disease, Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD),ulcerative colitis,  GERD), weight and eating disorders, peptic ulcer disease, esophageal disorders, gastrointestinal cancer, and liver, biliary, and pancreatic diseases.

Minimally Invasive Surgery

For many abdominal, colon and rectal diseases Mount Sinai’s surgeons offer the latest minimally invasive procedures. Although the techniques vary, minimally invasive surgery employs the use of small incisions, innovative imaging, and laparoscopic instruments (slender, specially-designed instruments and cameras inserted into a patient’s body). The result is less scarring, quicker recovery, and less pain.

Inflammatory Bowel Disease

The Center for Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) has always been at the forefront of research and treatment of disorders which includes Crohn’s Disease and ulcerative colitis. Our center offers full diagnostic and treatment services to patients experiencing any degree of IBD, from mild to extreme cases.  Like all Mount Sinai clinical services, the center is actively committed to basic science research that can be translated into usable treatments. In this way, our patients are able to benefit from early access to the newest effective therapies.

Working closely with our famed adult IBD center, the Children’s IBD Center at Mount Sinai was founded to provide innovative and comprehensive care to pediatric IBD patients. This center offers children and their families a highly supportive environment for the delivery of hands-on personalized care.
