Thyroid Nodules and Thyroid Cancer Program

Thyroid nodules are lumps in the thyroid, a gland in the lower neck that secretes the hormone that regulates metabolism. Thyroid nodules are usually detected during routine physical examinations. They are found in about four percent of adults in the U.S. and are four times more common in women than men. While most are benign, about five percent can be thyroid cancers.

We offer full evaluation services for patients with thyroid nodules, including ultrasound examinations of the thyroid in our office. Ultrasonography is of great value in the evaluation and management of patients with thyroid nodules, and is used to guide fine-needle aspiration biopsy of nodules. We also offer state-of-the-art care for patients with a diagnosis of thyroid cancer, including ultrasound examinations of the neck in our office for cancer surveillance.
