Bone Densitometry Program

Bone Densitometry Program

The Bone Densitometry Program at Mount Sinai offers state-of-the-art DXA bone density testing for osteoporosis patients referred by their physicians.

Osteoporosis, a loss of bone mass which predisposes an individual to fractures, can be treated effectively if it is diagnosed. Screening for osteoporosis with bone density testing known as dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry, or DXA, can diagnose osteoporosis before symptoms like fractures occur. Individuals who should be screened for osteoporosis include postmenopausal women, patients treated with medications such as prednisone, men with low testosterone, and patients with diseases causing osteoporosis, including hyperparathyroidism and intestinal malabsorption.
