Juan del Rio Martin, MD is the Surgical Director of Adult Liver Transplantation. Dr. del Rio Martin graduated from the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid and completed his general surgery residence in the Fundacion Jimenez Diaz affiliated to the same university. He received a grant from the Fundacion Conchita Rabago for international research for which he joined the Ochsner Clinic. He later completed a three year multi-organ transplant fellowship at Rush Presbyterian St. Lukes in Chicago. After working in his native country for a few years in Fundacion Hospital Alcorcon he was recruited to the Liver Transplant and Hepatobiliary Surgery Department in the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. He came to New York in 2005 as Clinical Instructor in the Transplant Surgery Department at New York University. In July 2006, he joined the faculty at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. His main interests include Ischemia/Reperfusion injury, extended criteria donors and post-transplant HCV.
