Dr. Rosanne M. Leipzig is the Gerald and Mary Ellen Ritter Professor (tenured) and the Vice Chair for Education of the Brookdale Department of Geriatrics and Adult Development at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York.  She was the recipient of one of the first Brookdale National Fellowships in Geriatric Medicine and was also named one of the first Joy McCann Scholars for exemplary leadership and mentorship in medical education.  She has received the American College of Physicians Richard and Hinda Rosenthal Foundation Award, the ACP-New York Laureate Award, and the Society of General Internal Medicine Mid-Atlantic Region award for excellence as a clinician-teacher, the 2008 Dennis Jahnigen award from the American Geriatrics Society in recognition of her contributions to geriatrics education nationally, and was the 2008 honoree for the Friends and Relatives of the Institutionalized Aged (FRIA).   She is a member of the Board of Directors for the American Board of Internal Medicine and serves on the United States Preventive Services Task Force.

Dr. Leipzig's research and publications highlight evidence-based treatment for older adults, the use of restraints in hospitalized elderly, and models for teaching geriatrics, chronic care, and evidence-based medicine. Dr. Leipzig is the principal investigator of a grant from the D.W. Reynolds Foundation to improve the training of non-geriatricians in geriatric medicine, and the inventor of the Portal of Online Geriatric Education (www.POGOe.org), a web-based clearinghouse for geriatric educational materials also supported by the Reynolds Foundation. She is the deputy editor of the 4th edition of Geriatric Medicine, edited by Dr. Christine K. Cassel and the editor-in-chief of Focus on Healthy Aging, a monthly newsletter for consumers
