Overview

The Mount Sinai Hospital, Department of Nursing, is sponsoring scholarships of up to $3,000 per semester for senior nursing students within a BSN program, in association with a work commitment as a Registered Nurse at The Mount Sinai Hospital for every semester that monies are awarded. The monies must be utilized for educational costs for the attainment of the degree for Fall 2009 and or Spring 2010.

Requirements

  • Proof of Matriculation (acceptance) within the BSN program.
  • Applicant must be a senior nursing student or in the last semester/year of the program.
  • Completion of some nursing courses within the program.
  • Letter of recommendation from a nursing faculty member.
  • Applicant must remain a student in good academic standing in a BSN program, maintaining a satisfactory grade point average and full-time course load (minimum GPA is 3.25). A transcript of grades must be obtained.
  • Completion of the program with no leaves of absence.
  • Evidence of related healthcare work experience preferred.
  • Applicant must accept the work commitment at The Mount Sinai Hospital as a Registered Nurse subsequent to graduation (within 3 months or sooner) as positions are available and offered.
  • Applicant must pass the NCLEX licensing examination after no more than two (2) attempts.
  • Mount Sinai must be provided with a promissory note in the full amount of the scholarship award, to be repaid to Mount Sinai immediately in full, in the event that the student fails to fulfill the work requirements or any of the other employment conditions.

Deadline

This Scholarship Program is a funded program. Refunding is received on an annual basis. Deadline for Applications is October 1.

Process

Your letter of interest should include your name, address and the phone number, as well as the school or university you are attending. Specify the number of credits attained to date and your current GPA. Identify your reasons for requesting the scholarship, your interest in coming to Mount Sinai, the amount of scholarship required and the number of semesters involved. Note your probable date of graduation.

Also include the following items:

  • Current resume
  • Copy of your matriculation letter (acceptance letter)
  • Original copy of your transcript(s), with specific courses, grades and grade point average from all undergraduate and graduate schools attended
  • Letter of recommendation from a nursing faculty member

Interview

Upon receipt and review of this information, you may be contacted for a personal interview. Since scholarship funding is limited, an initial review of all submitted materials will determine those applicants who will interview with the Selections Committee. This interview will be conducted at The Mount Sinai Hospital.

Following all invited applicant interviews, a decision regarding your scholarship application will be made and you will be notified – usually by November of the academic year.
