Our Professional Practice Model is the foundation for our commitment to patients and their families – and the nurses, caring for them. This model integrates primary nursing, extraordinary clinical leadership and interdisciplinary collaboration. Primary nursing recognizes that nurses are the professionals responsible for assessing, planning, and coordinating patient care.
The nurse manager exemplifies leadership, creating an environment that supports the nurse-patient relationship and professional advancement. In addition, Mount Sinai has championed advanced nursing practice, employing over 200 nurse practitioners, midwives, and nurse anesthetists. Lastly, our focus on interdisciplinary collaboration signifies that nurses and other professionals form vibrant partnerships on behalf of the patients and families we serve.
The foundation for our advanced beginner and experienced nurses is a clinically integrated two-week centralized orientation. This is followed by a comprehensive unit-based orientation including a preceptorship experience. Education Specialists are assigned to all services, coordinating all orientation and staff development initiatives. Continuing education/staff development programs are ongoing along with a state-of-the-art Cardiac Life Support Education Center.
