Dr. Michael C. Kim serves as both Director of the Coronary Care Unit and Director of Medical Education in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at Mount Sinai Heart. A graduate of Georgetown University School of Medicine, he has been a fixture here at Mount Sinai since 1994 completing his medical residency under Barry Coller, M.D., general cardiology fellowship under Valentin Fuster, M.D., Ph.D. and interventional cardiology training in 2001 under the guidance of Samin Sharma, M.D.

A talented coronary interventionalist, Dr. Kim currently performs over 1000 diagnostic catheterization procedures and over 650 percutaneous coronary interventions annually. He has quickly developed an outstanding clinical reputation within the tristate area and boasts a superb safety record. In addition, as Director of the Coronary Care Unit, Dr. Kim is recognized as an expert in the management of critical care cardiology especially in the area of acute coronary syndromes and ischemic heart failure.

As Director of Medical Education in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, Dr. Kim is responsible for the education and training of cardiology fellows in the laboratory. He has developed a core curriculum stressing the basics of the field and directs the catheterization staff in the constant goal of sharing knowledge with our future generations of cardiologists. The CCU rotation has been recognized by the Department of Medicine as one of the top educational rotations in the entire residency program. Dr. Kim has won numerous teaching honors including Teaching Resident of the Year, Teaching Fellow of the Year, and has been nominated multiple times for Teaching Attending of the Year within the Department of Medicine.

Dr. Kim maintains an active clinical research agenda. He has published in many peer-reviewed cardiology journals focusing on the areas of vascular complications and the role of vascular closure devices and the management of refractory angina pectoris. He has written chapters in prestigious textbooks including Hurst's The Heart and Cardiology Clinics. He has served as the site principal investigator in numerous ACS trials, including two NIH sponsored trials. In addition, he has delivered multiple grand rounds at various medical institutions and has been featured by local TV stations and quoted in numerous magazine and newspapers in the area of coronary artery disease.
