Sharmila Anandasabapathy, MD, completed her internal medicine training at the New York Hospital/Cornell Medical Center, New York, and her gastroenterology fellowship at The Mount Sinai Medical Center. After spending several years in Houston at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, she returned to Mount Sinai's Division of Gastroenterology as Chief of Endoscopy in October 2008. Dr. Anandasabapathy's clinical interests are in gastroesophageal reflux disease, Barrett's esophagus, and gastrointestinal cancers. She is also interested in endoscopic imaging, including endoscopic ultrasound and confocal microendoscopy. Her research interests focus on the early diagnosis and treatment of Barrett's esophagus and esophageal cancer, including endoscopic mucosal resection and ablative technologies. She has several active research protocols looking at the early detection of gastrointestinal cancers. Dr. Anandasabapathy graduated from Yale University and is a former literature major. When she is not scoping, she enjoys reading, travelling, and running in Central Park with her family and Shih-Tzu, Max.

Barrett's esophagus and esophageal cancer: early detection and minimally-invasive treatment
We have 6 ongoing clinical trials (both NIH, Industry and foundation supported) in Barrett's esophagus including a longitudinal study with the National Cancer Institute, and several other studies evaluating diagnostic and treatment strategies in Barrett's and esophageal cancer.
Advanced Imaging
Dr. Anandasabapathy currently holds a joint appointment in Biomedical Engineering at Rice University with whom she collaborates on three ongoing clinical trials evaluating novel methods of imaging early cancer in the gastrointestinal tract.
