Under his leadership, CMCA has supported an increase in Mount Sinai medical student matriculants from groups underrepresented in medicine to over 20% and helped double the percent of Black and Latino faculty (from 4% to almost 8%) at Mount Sinai.
Dr. Butts hails from Brooklyn, New York, received a BA in psychology from Columbia College and his MD from Cornell University Medical College. Since 1980, he has served without interruption, on the faculty of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He currently holds joint appointments as Associate Professor, Clinical-Educator track, in the Departments of Medical Education, Pediatrics, and Community and Preventive Medicine.
