Dr. Morrison received his B.Sc. from Brown University and his M.D. from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. He completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at the New York Hospital Cornell Medical Center and fellowship training in Geriatrics at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He has been on the faculty of Mount Sinai School of Medicine since 1995 where he established the Acute Care for the Elderly (ACE) Unit and served as its director from 1995-1997. He has received numerous awards for his research in geriatrics and palliative care and has been the recipient of a Brookdale National Fellowship in Geriatric Medicine, a Project on Death in America Faculty Scholars Award and currently is the recipient of a Mentored Clinical Scientist Development Award and is a Paul Beeson Physician Faculty Scholar in Aging Research. Dr. Morrison is currently the principal investigator of a $1.5 million Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality grant designed to improve the detection and management of pain in acute care hospitals. Dr. Morrison's past research has focused on decision making at the end of life, pain and symptom management in high risk and medically underserved populations, and quality measures in palliative care. Dr. Morrison was featured on the PBS special 'On Our Own Terms: Moyers on Dying.'
