Dr. McLaughlin received her medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine, as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. She completed her internship and residency at The New York Hospital/Cornell Medical Center where she received the prestigious C. Richard Bowman award for demonstrating human warmth, scientific endeavor, and dedication to medicine. She completed her fellowship in Cardiovascular medicine at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, where she received the B. Chaus Scholar Cardiology Award, and concomitantly completed her Master's in Public Health degree at Columbia University School of Public Health. Currently, she is an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Medicine, Health Policy and Geriatrics and Adult Development. She is the Medical Director of the Cardiac Health Program, and Co-Director of the Women's Cardiac Assessment and Risk Evaluation Program.

Dr. McLaughlin is the recipient of grants from the Agency for Health Care Quality and Research, the American Heart Association, the American College of Cardiology, and the New York Academy of Medicine. Her research focuses on improving the cardiovascular care of women, elderly and minorities. She has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals, and is the author of four book chapters, and is on the Editorial board of the publication, "Focus on Healthy Aging." She has been an invited speaker both nationally and internationally.

Since completion of her academic training, Dr. McLaughlin has been the recipient of numerous awards, including: the American College of Cardiology/Merck Fellowship Award, the Mary and David Hoar Fellowship of the New York Academy of Medicine, the SmithKline Beecham Development Partners Junior Faculty Award in Cardiology, and the Arthur Ross Foundation Award.
