Dr. Jason Shapiro is Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine, and a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at Columbia University. Dr. Shapiro's research focuses on evaluating health information technology implementations, with a specific focus on health information exchange, investigating its impact on resource utilization, health care costs, and provider satisfaction.  Other areas of active interest include ED information system implementation evaluation, workflow integration strategies for Health IT, and public health and biosurveillance.

Dr. Shapiro is currently working on the New York Clinical Information Exchange (NYCLIX) project, and serves as the Co-chair of the NYCLIX Clinical Advisory and Evaluation Subcommittees. Dr. Shapiro is conducting a five-year longitudinal evaluation of NYCLIX that is funded by a K99/R00 grant from the National Library of Medicine.
