Jane E. Sisk is an economist and Professor, Department of Health Policy. Currently on leave from Mount Sinai, she is Director, Division of Health Care Statistics, National Center for Health Statistics, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Hyattsville, MD.
Dr. Sisk??s research has focused on the implementation of evidence-based guidelines; evaluation of Medicaid managed care; and analysis of the cost-effectiveness of health-care interventions, including pneumococcal vaccination for elderly people. At Mount Sinai, she has developed and led randomized controlled trials to evaluate the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of interventions to improve the quality of care for people with hypertension or congestive heart failure(CHF).
From 1992-1999, Dr. Sisk was Professor of Public Health, Division of Health Policy and Management, Columbia University School of Public Health. At Columbia, she developed and directed the Master's Program in Effectiveness and Outcomes Research. Until 1990, Dr. Sisk was a Senior Associate and Project Director in the Health Program, Congressional Office of Technology Assessment. Her reports addressed such topics as information for consumers on the quality of medical care, Medicare payment for physician services, and the cost-effectiveness of preventive services.
Dr. Sisk served on the Study Section on Health Care Quality and Effectiveness Research and two Practice Guidelines Panels at the U.S. Agency for Health Care Research and Quality (AHRQ). At the National Academy of Sciences, she has been a member of the National Cancer Policy Board and 10 other the Institute of Medicine or National Research Council Committees. Dr. Sisk also serves on the editorial boards of Health Services Research and the International Journal of Technology Assessment in Health Care. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from McGill University, an M.A. in Economics from George Washington University, and a B.A. with honors in International Relations from Brown University, where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude. She has been elected a Fellow in the Association for Health Services Research, a Fellow in the New York Academy of Medicine, and a Member of the Institute of Medicine, National Academies of Sciences.
