Dr. Haber performs in-office neck ultrasonography for the diagnosis of thyroid and parathyroid disease, and for surveillance for recurrent disease in thyroid cancer patients. He has performed over 6,000 such examinations, and has directed courses in thyroid ultrasonography sponsored by the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists. Ultrasonography is of great value in the evaluation and management of patients with thyroid disease, especially thyroid nodules and thyroid cancer, and is used to guide fine-needle aspiration biopsy of thyroid nodules. It also makes possible pre-operative imaging of enlarged parathyroid glands in many patients with hyperparathyroidism.

Dr. Haber directs the Bone Densitometry Program at Mount Sinai.

Research

Research

Recent clinical research by Dr. Haber includes a study on the accuracy of fine needle aspiration biopsy for the diagnosis of thyroid nodules, and a study on the utility of neck ultrasonography for the pre-operative localization of enlarged parathyroid glands in patients with primary hyperparathyroidism. Current research is focussed on the utility of neck ultrasonography and other imaging methods for the detection of recurrent thyroid cancer.
