The role of metabolic variability in predicting cancer risk and prognosis.
Dr. Ambrosone is the Director of the Cancer Epidemiology Program in Cancer Prevention and Control. Her research interests focus on molecular epidemiology, and the role that interindividual variability in metabolism may play in both cancer etiology and prognosis after treatment for cancer. She is PI on funded studies of breast cancer in African-American women in both Arkansas and New York City, and is also involved in studies of lung and prostate cancer. She is interested in the impact of differences in carcinogen metabolism on relationships between smoking and cancer, and effects of variability in steroidogenesis and hormone metabolism on risk of breast, lung and prostate cancer. Her current interests also include variability in metabolism of chemotherapeutic agents and response to oxidative stress in relation to survival after treatment.
