Dr. Adler completed his post doctoral training in Primary Care Internal Medicine in 1982 at Mount Sinai's affiliate, the City Hospital Center at Elmhurst. He has been on the full time faculty of The Mount Sinai Medical Center since then, first at Elmhurst where he taught in the Primary Care Residency and then in the Division of General Medicine at the main campus since 1986. His expertise is in the psychosocial aspects of the doctor-patient relationship and he leads the Psychosocial Program for the Internal Medicine Residency Training Program. The format of the Psychosocial Program is small group teaching. The focus is to increase each resident's personal awareness of their psychological responses to patients and follows a learner centered curriculum. He is also the Co-director of the Out-patient Curriculum for the Internal Medicine Residency Training Program. In addition to being board certified in Internal Medicine, Dr. Adler has trained as a psychotherapist.
