Dr. Ebrahim Elahi, Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology, is the Medical Director of Eye Care Services specializing in Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery.
Raised in France, Dr. Elahi attended the Faculte de Medcine, Universite Louis Pasteur, then came to the United States to receive his B.A. Summa Cum Laude at Hofstra University. He attended medical school and received his M.D. at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine, during which time he founded and was President of the Mount Sinai International Health Society. He completed his residency in ophthalmology at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, followed by fellowship training in Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at Mount Sinai and at the Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat Infirmary. Dr. Elahi is a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Elahi is an experienced teacher and lecturer who has conducted a monthly oculoplastics lecture series for fellows and residents of various medical specialties. A dedicated researcher, he helped develop a highly successful single adjustable suture technique for the repair of blepharoptosis. He has researched and published studies in the anticipation and procedural causes of blepharoptosis resulting from cataract extraction as well as early diagnosis, treatment and management of thyroid related eye disease and eyelid and orbital tumors.
Amongst his notable internationally presented lectures on ophthalmic reconstructive surgery, Dr. Elahi is also deeply dedicated to the use of the internet and new information technologies to provide surgeons and health care providers worldwide with educational materials. He is one of the founders of Surgeonesis.com, an online forum for the exchange and transfer of surgical information across medical specialties through member discussions, video libraries and other database resources. Dr. Elahi presented 'Information Healthcare and Technology: The Impact of the Internet on the Future of Medicine' as a guest speaker at the United Nations' 10th Annual Conference of the World Information Transfer.
