Robert A Lookstein, MD, is Associate Professor of Radiology in the Division of Vascular and Interventional Radiology at The Mount Sinai Medical Center. After completing medical school at the State University of NY (SUNY) Health Science Center at Brooklyn in 1995, he did his residency and fellowship in Vascular and Interventional Radiology at The Mount Sinai Medical School, New York. He subsequently joined the division of Vascular and Interventional Radiology.
Dr. Lookstein lectures around the world on various subjects in the field of Vascular and Interventional Radiology including peripheral arterial imaging and intervention, endovascular interventions, aortic stent-grafts, and deep vein thrombosis. He is recognized as an innovator in the field of noninvasive vascular imaging.
Dr Lookstein currently is Director of Vascular Imaging and Associate Director of the Division of Interventional Radiology at Mount Sinai Medical Center. He is an Member of the Steering Committee of the American Heart Association's Council on Peripheral Arterial Disease. He also serves on the Committee on Cardiovascular Radiology and Intervention.
Dr. Lookstein serves on the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) Foundation's Cooperative Alliance for Interventional Radiology Research as the Principal Investigator of the Cardiovascular Imaging Research Initiative and is a member of the Multidisciplinary Research Panel on peripheral arterial disease. Dr. Lookstein is currently involved in numerous research studies related to peripheral vascular disease imaging and intervention. He currently serves as the Mount Sinai Medical Center Co-Principal Investigator for the NIH sponsored CORAL study examining the cardiovascular effects of atherosclerotic renal artery stenosis and the Site Principal Investigator for the NIH sponsored ATTRACT trial examining the role of endovascular therapy for the treatment of deep vin thrombosis. In addition he serves as the site principal investigator for the ORION trial which will examine the role of endovascular stent placement in the iliac arteries for the treatment of symptomatic peripheral arterial disease.
Dr. Lookstein has authored dozens of scientific abstracts and manuscripts related to cardiovascular imaging and intervention and serves as a Peer Reviewer for numerous scientific journals including the Journal of Vascular Interventional Radiology, Journal Of Endovascular Therapy, Vascular Medicine, and Journal of Vascular Surgery.
Dr. Lookstein is currently the president of the New York City Interventional Radiology Society which serves to educate trainees from around the tri-state area in the field of Interventional Radiology, Endovascular Therapy, and Cardiovascular Imaging. He is a regular faculty member of numerous national meetings including The International Society of Endovascular Therapy, Advanced Interventional Management, The Society of Interventional Radiology, The Radiologic Society of North America, and The American Heart Association.
