Dr. Hausman is board certified in orthopaedic surgery and has additional certification in hand surgery. A graduate of Yale College, Yale Medical School and the Yale Orthopaedic Residency Program, he has been a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, the Orthopaedic Research Society and the American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery since 1991. He is a member of other national and international education and research organizations and has lectured in the U.S. and abroad.
Dr. Hausman's interests and expertise include problems of the hand, elbow and shoulder due to congenital birth defects, nerve injury, trauma, tumors, severe infections, arthritis and overuse. He has pioneered methods of biological reconstruction of bone, tendon and muscle using the body's own tissue rather than metal and plastic prosheses or cadaver bone because of the improved durability and functionality of such procedures. He also performs minimally invasive microvascular surgery, utilizing endoscopic techniques, to minimize incisions and the discomfort of surgery.
