Dr. Ira Nash was featured in Inside Mount Sinai in recognition of being named Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of The Mount Sinai Medical Center. He has remained committed to enhancing the quality of care and patient safety since joining Mount Sinai in 1995.
Dr. Nash is the Interim Vice President for Excellence in Patient Care for the Mount Sinai Medical Center, The Chief of Internal Medicine at the James J. Peters Veterans Affairs Medical Center (a Mount Sinai teaching affiliate), Vice Chairman of the Samuel Bronfman Department of Medicine for Veterans Affairs, and an Associate Professor of Medicine of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He is a summa cum laude graduate of Harvard College and received his MD degree cum laude from the Harvard-MIT Program in Health Sciences and Technology at Harvard Medical School. Prior to joining Mount Sinai, he was on the full-time academic staff of the Cardiac Unit at the Massachusetts General Hospital and on the faculty of Harvard Medical School.
As Vice President for Excellence in Patient Care, he oversees all of the quality assessment and clinical performance improvement activities of the Medical Center. His clinical practice is devoted to general clinical cardiology. He has special interests in preventive cardiology and second opinions regarding treatment of complex coronary artery disease. He was recently named to Castle Connolly's "Top Doctors."
Dr. Nash has been a fellow of the American College of Cardiology (ACC) since 1992, and is also a fellow of the American Heart Association (AHA) and the American College of Physicians. He is the ACC representative to the Association of Specialty Professors, and serves on the ACC/AHA Task Force on Clinical Competency and Training.
Dr. Nash is on the editorial boards of the American Journal of Medicine and the American Journal of Medical Quality. He has edited a book on myocardial infarction care, and is an Associate Editor of Hurst's The Heart, a major textbook and online reference for cardiovascular medicine.
As a national spokesman for the American Heart Association, Dr. Nash is frequently interviewed to provide information and commentary on current topics in cardiovascular care. He has appeared on local and national television broadcasts, and has been widely quoted by newspapers and popular magazines.
He is married and has two daughters.
