Dr. Rothschild obtained his undergraduate and medical degrees at Yale University. He trained as a resident in otolaryngology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York under Dr. Hugh Biller, and subsequently was a fellow in pediatric otolaryngology at the Children's Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio under Dr. Robin Cotton. On the attending staff at Mount Sinai since 1994, Dr. Rothschild was on the full time faculty until January of 2003, when he opened his private practice. He continues to hold joint appointments to the departments of Otolaryngology and Pediatrics as an associate clinical professor, and continues to serve as the director of Pediatric Otolaryngology at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He is the author of a book and more than sixty articles and chapters in his field. He has also edited two multi- authored textbooks, and is currently the editor of the Transactions of the American Bronchoesophagological Association.

Dr. Rothschild is trained in all areas of pediatric otolaryngology. Common procedures performed include tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy and insertion of pressure equalizing tubes. Furthermore, Dr. Rothschild manages a variety of congenital and acquired conditions of the head and neck, including choanal atresia, neck masses, feeding and respiratory problems, sinusitis, airway obstruction and ear disease.

Dr. Rothschild has been involved with computers in medicine for many years, having worked as a programmer in a bioengineering laboratory as early as 1981. Over the past decades, he has been involved in a wide range of research and software development in the field of medical informatics, including artificial intelligence, and a CD-ROM based medical simulator for education in pediatric airway disease.

More recently, Dr. Rothschild has become quite involved with the medical Internet. In addition to his book on medical practice Web sites, he has authored a number of articles and book chapters on this topic. He also serves as the Internet editor for the AMA journal Archives of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. He has been invited to lecture in a wide variety of national and international forums on such topics as online patient-doctor communication, online publishing in medicine, Web site development and the use of the Internet in medical practice.

Within the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS), Dr. Rothschild is the chairman of the Technology Infrastructure committee. He is also the chairman of the information technology committee of the American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology. He has developed Web sites for a number of organizations, including the Society for Ear, Nose and Throat Advances in Children and the American Broncho-Esophagological Association.
