Rheumatology

Patient Services

We base our diagnosis and treatment efforts on the needs of our patients. While autoimmune disease affects all ages and ethnic groups, it peaks in people between the ages of 40 and 60, with some forms (e.g. Sjogren’s syndrome, polymyalgia rheumatica/giant cell arteritis) increasing in prevalence and severity with advanced age.

Older patients are particularly well served at The Mount Sinai R-FPA. Because older Americans are more likely to suffer from rheumatoid disease as well as from other chronic illnesses, we place a strong clinical and research emphasis on the practice of Geriatric Rheumatology at our Faculty Practice. This means that we frequently take a multidisciplinary, team approach to caring for our older patients. The R-FPA works closely with other specialty practices and colleagues at Mount Sinai in the care and treatment of older patients suffering from rheumatic diseases that can include any of the diseases and disorders mentioned on this site.

When patients need immediate, acute relief from joint and bursa pain, we offer therapeutic injections that are carried out in a carefully controlled setting with an interventional radiologist assisting. Patients requiring soft tissue and axial injections may be seen by a Mount Sinai Pain Management physician.

Current advancements in research – including the study of new drug therapies and biological treatments -- mean that more people with autoimmune diseases are living healthier and more fulfilling lives.

Each of us at the Mount Sinai Rheumatology Faculty Practice Associates is proud to be in the forefront of treatment and research.  However, equally important to us is the knowledge that we provide care in a cheerful, dignified, and respectful manner to all our patients.
