Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine

Research

As members of the faculty of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, members of the Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine Faculty Practice Associates are dedicated researchers as well as physicians. In fact, we treat research as a major part of our profession.

We’re also pleased to note that many of the diagnostic tools and treatments routinely used to care for lung disease today have been developed or refined by Mount Sinai pulmonologists.

Every day of the year, the observations we make while treating patients are shaped into questions that are then tested through our research. Outcomes from our research then guide the individualized care we provide to every patient. Results from our investigations are shared with physicians worldwide through publication in peer-reviewed medical journals.

The result is that we’re able to deliver tomorrow’s medicine today.

Currently, physicians at our FPA are conducting research in areas bound to benefit patient care. For example, open studies now include research into the pulmonary health of World Trade Center victims.

Our FPA physicians are also performing research into the causes and treatment of interstitial lung disease and sarcoidosis, as well as investigations into the causes and management of chronic sleep disorders.

As medical staff members of a major treatment and research center, we are free to conduct specialized research and to consult the very latest results from all medical specialties including our own. This only enhances the patient care that has helped Mount Sinai develop into a major referral center for lung disease.

Because of the superb reputations of our renowned P-FPA lung specialists and their colleagues in subspecialties including immunology, rheumatology, oncology and rehabilitation medicine, patients frequently travel to The Mount Sinai Medical Center from all over the world for diagnosis and treatment of lung disease.
