Postdoctoral training opportunities are available in most research laboratories in the Department. Applicants should directly contact individual mentors. The Department has a postdoctoral training grant in the Pharmacology of Drugs of Abuse from the National Institute of Drug Abuse. Postdoctoral fellows who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents with suitable research interests are candidates for support from this grant. In addition, faculty members participate in other interdisciplinary training grants in Molecular Endocrinology and Molecular and Cellular Cardiology. Many postdoctoral researchers are supported on faculty research grants, and others hold individual fellowships.
Although postdoctoral trainees are not required to take any courses, many find it useful to attend advanced graduate courses such as Signal Transduction, and Pharmacogenomics. Postdoctoral trainees have the opportunity to develop their speaking presentation skills through participation in the Works in Progress.
