Program Overview

Established in 1988, the Fellowship Training Program in Pediatric Cardiology at Mount Sinai offers six positions. The Program was initially accredited by the ACGME in 1988 and was reaccredited without citations by the ACGME in 2006. The major goal of the Training Program is to prepare the trainee for an academic career. All graduates to date have been board eligible, and the majority have taken academic positions upon completion of their fellowships. Recognizing the changing environment in medicine, fellows also receive ongoing information about the practice of pediatric cardiology in the managed care environment.

The Fellowship Training Program is based primarily on the Mount Sinai campus, which includes The Mount Sinai Hospital and the School of Medicine. The Mount Sinai Hospital is an 1100-bed tertiary care center located on the east side of Manhattan, next to Central Park, between 98th and 100th streets. The pediatric facilities include a 6-bed pediatric cardiac/cardiothoracic ICU (PCICU), a 16-bed pediatric ICU, a 38-bed neonatal ICU, 75 pediatric inpatient beds, and a pediatric emergency room. Outpatient visits take place in the Annenberg Building. In addition to The Mount Sinai Hospital, patients are referred from the numerous other hospitals in the New York metropolitan region that compose the Mount Sinai health care network.
