Program Overview

Goal of Fellowship

Our fellowship trains the hand, elbow, and microvascular surgeon by syncretizing the strengths of participating faculty and institutions with different backgrounds, expertise, and interests. This combination orthopaedic/plastic surgery training exposes the Fellow to a broad spectrum of clinical and research problems including the evaluation and treatment of traumatic, arthritic, congenital, and neoplastic conditions of the hand and upper extremity. Graduated responsibility is given with regard to patient care and there is dedicated research time.

Hospital Rotations

The fellowship is from August 1 to July 31 and is divided into three primary rotations between Mount Sinai, NYU Medical Center, and Bellevue Hospital. The Mount Sinai experience is orthopaedic-based with a high concentration of elbow and wrist disorders. The NYU rotation emphasizes plastic reconstruction of soft tissues and peripheral nerves with substantial clinical experience in both pedicled and microvascular free flaps. Bellevue offers a wide variety of traumatic hand and upper extremity conditions including replantation surgery. The goal is to provide a comprehensive learning experience with regard to clinical decision-making, surgical skills, and scientific investigation.

Stipend
