PROFESSOR & CHAIR
Welcome to the virology training program of Mount Sinai School of Medicine (MSSM) and the NYU School of Medicine (NYUSOM). The goal of this program is to assist in the training of graduate and postdoctoral students in the broad discipline of Virology. The research training emphasis is directed toward teaching students the theory and experimental approaches required for independent scientific investigations. Students learn the molecular mechanisms involved in virus replication and host responses to viral infections. Additional research areas available for training include novel approaches for antiviral strategies and vaccine development.
Our goal is to develop junior scientists and investigators who are well grounded in the fundamental knowledge of virology and laboratory research, preparing them for careers at universities and in industry where they study mechanisms of virus-host interactions.
The mission of the graduate school is to provide rigorous training in basic science as well as patient-based research that will prepare our students for leadership roles in the scientific challenge that will dominate the 21st century: the translation of scientific discovery to clinical innovation.
The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs is a dedicated resource for postdoctoral fellows, faculty, and administrators, and provides support to enhance the outstanding scientific training available to Mount Sinai's postdoctoral investigators.
The Sackler Institute of Graduate Biomedical Sciences at New York University School of Medicine is a division of New York University's Graduate School of the Arts and Sciences. It offers interdisciplinary training programs in the basic medical sciences, leading to the Ph.D. degree.
