Program Overview

The Liver Disease Fellowship at Mount Sinai offers an intensive year in advanced clinical training to applicants who have already completed basic Gastroenterology training. The goal of the program is to train tomorrow’s leaders in academic Hepatology who will become faculty at medical schools throughout the country. The fellowship year can be credited towards board eligibility in Gastroenterology. The fellowship also qualifies candidates for advanced UNOS Certification in Liver Transplantation and offers thorough exposure to both outpatient and inpatient management of a wide variety of acute and chronic liver diseases. In addition, fellows are encouraged to participate in meaningful clinical research, with the opportunity to continue these research projects under the aegis of an NIH Fellowship Grant in Liver Diseases and Gastroenterology. A large number of conferences and didactic interactions complement an outstanding clinical experience. The fellowship is conducted exclusively at The Mount Sinai Medical Center. The fellows are expected to lead an active role in the education of the housestaff and medical students in the diagnosis and management of liver diseases.
