Graduate Medical Education

The Mount Sinai School of Medicine Consortium for Graduate Medical Education, consisting of 13 institutions located in New York and New Jersey, sponsors more than 140 residency programs in virtually every specialty of medicine, enrolling in the aggregate more than 2,000 house staff. Consortium educational activities provided to all house staff, regardless of home institution or specialty.

Program Overview

The Department of Genetics and Genomic Sciences at Mount Sinai School of Medicine(MSSM) has been awarded a NIH training grant to train physician-scientists in medical genetics research.

Training will be on translational research in genomics, proteomics, pharmacogenetics, complex traits, single gene disorders, and the development of molecular-based therapies. The specific objectives of the program is to provide:

  • graduate level didactic, medical genetics training specific to the needs of each individual trainee
  • mentored research training that will provide fellows with the skills necessary to compete for research funding
  • practical instruction in grant writing, career building and obtaining research funding and instruction in the ethical conduct of research

Positions are available starting July 1, 2008.

Physicians who have completed the clinical component (PGY4 level or higher) of a Medical Genetics and combined Pediatrics/Medical Genetics, Internal Medicine/Medical Genetics, or Ob-Gyn/Medical Genetics residency by June 30, 2008 are eligible.

Applicants must be an MD with U.S. citizenship or permanent residents and underrepresented minority candidates are encouraged to apply.
