The Mount Sinai School of Medicine Consortium for Graduate Medical Education, consisting of 13 institutions located in New York and New Jersey, sponsors more than 140 residency programs in virtually every specialty of medicine, enrolling in the aggregate more than 2,000 house staff. Consortium educational activities provided to all house staff, regardless of home institution or specialty.

Program Overview

The medical informatics fellowship is designed to give the fellow exposure to many facets of the world of medical informatics. The fellow will learn about electronic health records, from choosing a vendor to implementation to administration and maintenance. The fellow will learn about different vendors and different solutions that are being offered, and will have the opportunity to work with vendors to keep improving their products. The fellow, in addition to working within the Emergency Department, will also work closely with the IT team at Mount Sinai Hospital to maintain the current systems and explore opportunities for improvement. There is active involvement in a number of research projects, ranging from ED crowding, operations, financial return on investment, RHIOs (regional health information organizations), and more. The fellow will gain exposure to administrative aspects of the Emergency Department, attending operations, flow group, QA, financial, and hospital administrative meetings. The fellow will gain a well-rounded education in medical informatics and how it applies to the everyday work environment.
