Research

As fellowship director of Pediatric Emergency Medicine Dr. Vella's academic interests are many.  He has published on the need for intravenous fluid in pediatric trauma victims and am now actively writing multiple book chapters (see publications). He also serves on the editorial board for the monthly journal Pediatric Emergency Medicine Practice.  With an obvious focus on education and excellent clinical care, he also enjoy works as a child advocate.  He has been involved in the American Academy of Pediatrics for 10 years, and currently serves as the New York State representative to the section on young physicians.  He is also the program chair for the section and thus responsible for the academic program of the section at our annual meeting.

As a child advocate he has been available for interviews by local media regarding issues of child health.  These have included stories by CBS on burns in children, the management of croup, and the importance of child life in the pediatric emergency department.

He also enjoys volunteering and is a volunteer for the Medical Reserve Corps of NYC, New York Cares, and City Harvest.
