The Department of Anesthesiology offers a 1-year fellowship in obstetric anesthesiology. Our fellows gain an expertise in obstetric anesthesiology beyond what was learned during the anesthesiology residency. The fellow will be exposed to a wide range of cases as they help manage approximately 6,000 women who deliver annually at Mount Sinai, 25% of whom are high risk. In addition the fellow will teach and supervise the anesthesia residents rotating through the service and participate in a full range of academic activities. Obstetric anesthesiology does not yet have an ACGME approved fellowship, but the society for Obstetric Anesthesiology and Perinatology has submitted application for such a fellowship. The Department of Anesthesiology currently offers a fellowship in OB anesthesiology that meets all the requirements of the proposed fellowship, and plans to apply for ACGME certification as soon as the fellowship is approved.
