About Us

The Program begins on the first Monday of June and runs for 10 full-time consecutive weeks. During the Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP), fellows:

  • Have access to over 200 cutting-edge laboratories
  • Interact with faculty and students
  • Attend the Summer Seminar Series
  • Participate in special workshops and conversations with current Ph.D. and M.D./Ph.D. students
  • Present research posters at a special session by SURP fellows
  • Submit works-in-progress reports
  • Network and have social interactions
  • Gain a look into the life of a graduate student
  • Have the opportunity to learn more about our graduate program from the perspective of a graduate student
  • Learn more or apply through our early assurance of admission to the Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. programs

Student FAQ

Is housing available and is it far from the laboratories?

Fellows will live during the 10-week period in nearest Mount Sinai's subsidized housing.

What is the application deadline?

All application materials must be submitted by February 1.

Am I eligible to apply?

Applications are invited from undergraduate students who are currently in the sophomore, or junior year. Students should demonstrate an inclination towards graduate training, in Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. work, in biomedically-related sciences. Applicants should have a minimum GPA of 3.5 and should have completed at least general biology, general chemistry, calculus, and organic chemistry

When does the Program start?

The Program begins on the first Monday in June. All Fellows must begin the Program on this day.

How much is the stipend and is it taxable?

The stipend for the ten-week program is $2,500. The stipend is subject to all federal, state, and local taxes. It is the student's responsibility to make sure that the appropriate taxes are paid.
