Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery/M.D. Training Program

Gold Divider 4Col

Application Overview

The Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery will be accepting two residents for its six-year combined OMS/MD Program for academic year 2004-2005 (PGY-2). We participate in the Postdoctoral Application Support Service (PASS) program. PASS is designed to meet the needs of postdoctoral dental programs and their candidates by providing participating programs with information in a standardized format. Additionally, this service relieves candidates of the burden of repetitious individual applications.

Requirements

Applicants must have a bachelor of arts or science degree and be a graduate of an American or Canadian school of dentistry prior to beginning the training program. The applicant should have demonstrated a high level of academic achievement during college and dental school. Mount Sinai is a participant in PASS, as well as the National Resident Matching Program. Official transcripts, National Board of Dental Examiners scores (Part I and Part II, if taken), and letters of recommendation must be forwarded with the application. Interviews will be conducted on an invitation-only basis. Interviewees will be required to complete an OMS supplemental application. Approximately 20 applicants are interviewed for the 2 positions.

All applicants selected for interview will meet with the Department's Admission Committee as well as the Admissions Committee of the School of Medicine. The School of Medicine acceptance will be for advanced standing into the second year. Matriculation into the clinical years is contingent on passing Part I of the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) at the end of the first year (year II of medical school). Should the resident not be able to pass this examination after two tries, he or she will be dismissed from the program.
