Gold Divider 4Col

Curriculum

The Division is committed not only to providing the best educational programs, but also to providing the highest possible level of patient care. The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery didactic program is carried out within the Department. Weekly conferences devoted to case review and instruction in all facets of the speciality are given by the residents, faculty, and guest lecturers. In addition, departmental grand rounds, journal club, and orthognathic/orthodontic and M/M conferences are conducted on a monthly basis. A specific course in head and neck anatomy is presented prior to the OMS training portion of the program.

During the residency, each resident will be expected to prepare and submit two papers suitable for presentation at a national meeting or publication in a refereed journal. These papers may be the result of clinical or laboratory research. Research within the Department includes projects related to trauma management, rigid internal fixation, cancer diagnosis, mandibular reconstruction using microsurgical techniques, and endosseous implants. Our residency program is designed to produce a clinically competent and academically-oriented surgeon. The program is part of a strong academic medical center that serves a large and diverse population.
