The “executive style” structure of the program allows students to complete their introductory business courses during the first two years of medical school. The third year of the program is devoted to clinical clerkships. Remaining medical school requirements and the advanced business courses, which look at the application of business disciplines to the health care industry, are completed in the fourth and fifth years of the program. During the final years all students, regardless of background, participate in a “cohort model” of education at Baruch, thus fostering a team approach to problem solving and learning from each other's experiences. As a capstone experience in the last year, students present a business plan for a new health services venture to a mock Board of Directors or Financiers, composed of leaders from health care related organizations.
All classes at Baruch take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, starting at 6 P.M. Baruch classes will substitute for Mount Sinai electives in years 1 and 2. The first six courses in the Baruch curriculum may have sequence altered depending on university enrollment.
